Buildings energy efficiency
In the EU 15, buidings account for 40% of all energy use of which half could be saved through simple and effective measures, such as better insulation.
Renovating the existing building stock is urgently required whether or not energy use is considered. These renovations are needed as much as for social reasons as for economic or environmental reasons.
New buildings have to be built according to minimum energy efficiency standards.
